God moves in response to our prayer. Prayer is at the heartbeat of the Christian life. God invites us to bring our every need to Him in prayer. He invites us into His presence as His children. The very throne room of God is open to us, and we are to come boldly into His presence.
As Christians, we are often reluctant to pray. We consider prayer as a last effort instead of a first response. Too often we talk about prayer, but don’t spend the time before God in prayer. The book of James puts it this way,
You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. – James 4:2 (NASB)
We do not have because we do not ask. Could it be that God is waiting for us to pray before He moves in power? How many nights have we spent in worry instead of in prayer? How many days have we lived in fear because we haven’t brought our needs and concerns to the Lord? How many times have we spend 2 minutes in prayer and then 2 hours in distress?
Prayer is a response to God’s Invitation
God invites us to bring our concerns, decision, worries, and fears to Him. God spoke through the prophet Jeremiah saying,
Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know. – Jeremiah 33:3 (NASB)
God calls us to prayer. He has done everything needed to open the door of communication with Him. All we need to is respond to His invitation.
Prayer is an indicator of our spiritual condition
It doesn’t matter if you attend every event at the church, listen to Christian radio, and fellowship with other believers continually; if you aren’t praying, you are in need of spiritual renewal. Our prayer life is an accurate indicator of our walk with God. Prayer is our intimate connection with God. The person who has an active prayer life will grow in the Lord, enjoy His presence throughout the day, and experience God’s blessing in his life.
Prayer is an Act of Submission
Prayer is an indicator of our spiritual condition because at the heart of prayer is submission. When we pray, we are confessing that we don’t have all the answers. We are expressing our complete dependence on God. When we pray, we are placing our lives into God’s hands.
Prayer Brings God into the Center of Our Situation
Whether we are praying for wisdom, or asking for a need to be met; when we pray we put God into the center of the situation. We invite Him to direct our path and work on our behalf. We line our lives up with His Lordship and expect Him to respond to our prayer.
We Have Not Because We Ask Not
What are you missing because you have not asked of God? What is it that God wants to do in your life, your family, and your church but cannot because you have not asked of Him? Could it be there are blessings in heaven waiting to be poured out on us because we have not prayed? What are you asking of God today?
God never warns us of praying too much; He does remind us that we may not have because we may not have asked. Let’s bring our needs, fears, and worries to the Lord and invite Him to work on our behalf today.
Join me in Praying
Father, I know there is so much You want to bring into my life. I know You desire to do “far more abundantly than I can ask or think.” I don’t want to be guilty of missing out because I have not asked of You. Today I bring my needs, worries, and fears and lay them at Your feet. I want all You have for me. (Now take a moment and pray specifically for those areas one by one.)
Thank you that you always hear my prayer,
In Jesus Name,
Amen
