Read through the book of Acts and one theme is repeated again and again. The church prayed, and God moved. From Pentecost to freeing Peter from jail to sending missionaries to spread the Gospel, prayer played a significant role in the life of the early church.
When we pray, we confess our need and dependence on God. When we pray, we step beyond our strength and into God’s abundance. When we pray, the doors of heaven open and God’s power is poured out on us.
God calls us to be a people of prayer. His church is to be a house of prayer. How often is prayer a priority in your church? Let’s make it personal, what is the priority of prayer in your life?
Prayerlessness is the great sin of our day. It’s an indicator of our self-reliance and pride. A prideful person will never be a person of prayer.
So many churches have removed prayer from Sunday services. Prayer doesn’t fit into the smooth running, perfectly timed worship services expected today. Even when there are prayer meetings, only a handful of members attend.
Could it be our nation is in the condition it is because we as the people of God no longer pray? Is it any wonder our churches have lost their power, and the gospel is ignored? It’s time we came back to the priority of prayer.
What might happen in our churches across the nation if we returned prayer to the priority of the New Testament church? What could God do it we as the church returned prayer to the center of all we do?
2 Chronicles 7:14 invites us to humble ourselves and PRAY.
Let’s Pray Together:
Father, forgive us for abandoning prayer. Because we have not faithfully called out to You, we have missed out on so many of the blessings You have for us. Father, birth a new passion for prayer in our churches. Release a spirit of prayer in Christians across the country. Bring Christians together to call upon You. Let “and when they had prayed” be the theme of our churches once again.
We humble ourselves before you and ask You to heal our land.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
Thank you for including me in the National Prayer Room. I feel very
blessed and humbled to be able to call upon our loving and faithful
God for all the blessings that HE promises through this calling. Prayer
is my spiritual gift.
Thanks again for giving me this opportunity to join with others in prayer.
